ECO CLUBBING? NO SWEAT

Dance = energy = sweat. A cool new club in the Netherlands is changing sweat back into energy – to power the club!

This September sees the launch of a new Netherlands nightclub that’s been dubbed “the weirdest nightclub in the world”. WATT is an “eco club” that has been cleverly designed to generate power from… urine and sweat! The fun happens in Rotterdam – about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam, but it’s definitely worth the drive.

Aiming to re-use and recycle energy, the activity generated on the specially designed dance floor is harnessed to create electricity. The bar has a zero-waste policy and there’s a “water wall” for cooling the busy power-generating patrons in place of air conditioning.

According to one of the entrepreneurs behind the venture, Williem Tieleman, “WATT symbolises strength, energy and power” – which makes the choice of first-night songstress all the more interesting. Amy Winehouse is rumoured to have been booked for a sizeable sum to open the human-powered hot spot. Rehab this certainly isn’t, but it’s definitely one to watch.

GETTING THERE
WATT will launch on 4 September in West-Kruiskade, at the heart of Rotterdam’s club scene, about an hour from Amsterdam. bmibaby flies to the Dutch capital from Birmingham, Cardiff and East Midlands. For more details and great prices from just £24.99 one-way, log on to www.bmibaby.com

iStylista founder and celebrity stylist, Chantelle Znideric gave us her top tips for holiday style this summer:

* Utilise suitcase space by placing all footwear in first (soles down) and then pack clothes neatly around them. To ensure minimal creasing, roll (rather than fold) all clothing.

A maxi dress [below] is a stylish addition without looking like you’ve tried too hard; team with gladiator sandals during the day and heeled platforms at night for instant glamour.

* Pack a selection of accessories – big “statement” pieces like chunky bangles, a high-waisted leather belt and an ethnic-inspired necklace will add dramatic impact and change your look for any occasion.

* Kaftans are high-fashion this summer; they’re lightweight, pack down to nothing and act as a great cover-up by the pool. Team them with skinny jeans, cropped pedal pushers or tailored city shorts.

* Wear gladiator sandals [top] to the max: they’re comfortable and look fabulous embellished with jewels, as well as in metallic and patent finishes.

* Linen trousers are great to travel in and still look great even if they’re a little creased. Line two pairs inside each other and roll them up to avoid creases across the legs.

* A flattering bikini is a holiday essential, but which style suits you? Go for an all-over colour with a deep plunging neckline if you’re an hourglass shape. Details such as frills or ruffles worn on the hips and bust will create more curves for a straight-up-and-down figure. An inverted triangle (wedge) body shape should choose deep plunging necklines and boy shorts or low leg-cut briefs to balance their figure. Pear shapes should avoid frills or any detail that adds bulk to their bottom half. Instead, high-cut briefs will lengthen those tanned pins – team them with an embellished bikini or halter-neck top that will focus the eye upwards.
