The bmibaby ELITE ICE HOCKEY LEAGUE season has now come to a close – and it’s been an exciting year! Coventry Blaze won the Knockout Cup and were crowned champions of the league, while Nottingham Panthers were awarded the Challenge Cup. Meanwhile, the Sheffield Steelers won the bmibaby Elite League playoff finals, which were held at the National Ice Centre in Nottingham over a weekend in April. More than 14,000 people attended the finals, where they also saw Carlton Central Primary School crowned the winner of a very cool street hockey tournament, “SCORE FOR SCHOOLS”. This is a community project, run by bmibaby in both Nottingham and Edinburgh. Every time the Nottingham Panthers or Edinburgh Capitals scored a home goal, bmibaby awarded a street hockey kit to a local primary school. These lucky schools received coaching from ice hockey players and trained to compete in the tournament. The Edinburgh tournament will take place outside Murrayfield Ice Rink on 14 June, so make sure you head out to the family fun day if you’re around!
