Poland pioneers
Bright and early on the morning of Sunday 10 February, we celebrated the launch of our first ever flight from East Midlands to Warsaw. The next day, our inaugural flight to Warsaw from Wales took off from Cardiff Airport, and then on 12 February, a Polish choir greeted passengers checking in for our first flight from Birmingham to Krakow! People checking in for these flights were treated to traditional Polish sweet treats like cheesecakes, doughnuts, pastries and biscuits, while over in Poland passengers were presented with loads of bmibaby goodies. Everyone’s thrilled about this great new service linking the Midlands and Wales to Poland!
a warm welcome
February was a very busy time for bmibaby – as well as our new flights to Poland, we also launched a new service from Ireland West Knock to Glasgow International Airport. We received a very warm and typically Irish welcome in Knock, where passengers were entertained by traditional pipers, while in Glasgow they were treated to Irish whiskey and chocolates!
ice is nice
The bmibaby Elite Ice Hockey League season is coming to an end for another year. It’s been a fantastic season – and for the first time, the league matches have been televised on Sky Sports, reaching more than 100,000 TV viewers every week. As we go to print, last year’s Playoff final winners, the Nottingham Panthers, have just won the Challenge Cup against arch rivals the Sheffield Steelers, and are seeking to retain their title at the bmibaby Elite League Playoff Finals in Nottingham on 5-6 April. Elsewhere, the Edinburgh Capitals are off the bottom of the league and fighting for a Playoff quarter final spot, and the Coventry Blaze are in prime position to defend their league winner’s title for another year! If you’ve never experienced this fast-paced, exciting family sport before, the season starts again in September, so check out www.bmibabyeliteleague.co.uk for information about your local team.
