Head to the bmibaby beach this summer… in the middle of Birmingham! Thanks to a partnership between Birmingham City Council and bmibaby, this superb summer attraction will run from 10.30am to 7pm every day until Sunday 16 September. “The bmibaby beach at Chamberlain Square will be a fantastic place to visit during the hot summer months, where everyone can enjoy 12 weeks of fun and exciting events,” says David Hodge, bmibaby’s marketing director. Whether you want to chill out on the beach watching Wimbledon on the big screen, practise your samba on the sand with Brazilian dancers or even take part in keep-fit sessions, the bmibaby beach is the place to be in Birmingham this summer. It comes complete with sand, deck chairs and palm trees, and will be the site for some fantastic events, such as the England Beach Soccer Weekend (3–5 August) and the Ice Cream Festival (31 August–2 September). Beach-goers will also be able to enjoy highlights of BBC Big Screen from the comfort of their deckchairs, including Royal Opera House screenings and the Diana, Princess of Wales, memorial concert. The bmibaby elite ice hockey league season kicks off on 8 September and runs until 5 April 2008. Fans are eagerly anticipating another exciting year in the 10-team league, with new star signings and old faces moving to rival clubs. If you’re new to ice hockey, this is a fastpaced, exciting spectator sport that’s great entertainment for the entire family. bmibaby is supporting the Cardiff Blues in a new season of rugby action that kicks off in September at Cardiff Arms Park. The Blues will take on the cream of European rugby in the Heineken Cup, including French seeds Stade Francais Paris as well as Bristol and Harlequins. The draw took place in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, which was confirmed as the host venue for the season final on 24–25 May – the fifth time the final has been staged in the Welsh capital. The Blues also face tough competition in the EDF Energy Cup as they take on Leicester Tigers, Sale Sharks and Bath Rugby in the pool stage, while in the Magners League they’ll play against the best from Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
